Actress Amrita Rao has been in a number of films over the years, but Vivah, which was directed by Sooraj Barjatya, is undoubtedly one of the most well-liked and successful films in her career. Rao recently opened out on her relationship with co-star Shahid Kapoor, her experience working on the movie, and how the 2006 movie was received.
Amrita discussed the effects of Vivah during an interview. “So when Vivah released, I would get these proposals, and we didn’t have so many smartphones back then, so I would mostly get these letters from guys in Canada and the US. They used to send me photos of their house, their moms, and their cars. I used to laugh back then at these things. But now when I look back at it, I think of the impact that one role has, they just want to get married to you. It was so magical,” Amrita gushed.
In an earlier interview, Amrita also shared how when her now-partner Anmol had seen Vivah with his mother, she wanted Anmol to ‘get her a daughter-in-law like Poonam Amrita’s character.’ Amrita also discussed the early conflicting reactions to the film in the same interview, with some critics describing her character as “regressive.” However, director Barjatya asserted that she shouldn’t be affected by criticism because ultimately, viewers decide a film’s fate. the film turns out that Vivah’s popularity, which saw the film earn over Rs 100 crore at the box office, helped to renew the careers of its starring actors Amrita and Shahid.
Vivah was the fourth collaboration of Kapoor and Rao as lead co-stars and their first working experience with director Sooraj Barjatya.
