Sulochana, a veteran actor who performed in more than 250 Hindi and 50 Marathi films, died on Sunday in Mumbai as due to age-related issues. She was 94 years old. Early in the 1940s, Sulochana began her film career in Marathi. She swiftly moved to Hindi cinema, playing a number of mothers in films like Shammi Kapoor’s Dil Dekhe Dekho, Dilip Kumar’s Aadmi, and Dev Anand’s Jhonny Mera Naam, among others.
She had age-related health issues and breathing problems, according to her daughter Kanchan Ghanekar, who confirmed her death. She passed away at 6 this evening. Her ‘antim darshan’ will take place at her Prabhadevi mansion in the city, per a family statement. At the crematorium in Shivaji Park, her cremation will take place on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The actor is well known for her roles in Kora Kagaz, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Himmatwala, and Andar Bahar, in which she played Jackie Shroff’s mother.
Sulochana played both his mother and a relative in various films starring Dev Anand, such as Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Duniya, and Amir Garib, among others. The actor also worked closely with Rajesh Khanna for a long time, appearing in a number of his films, including Prem Nagar, Adhikar, Kati Patang, Mere Jeevan Saathi, and Bahraon Ke Sapne. Sulochana got the Padma Shri award in 1999. Some of her Marathi titles include Sasurvas, Vahinichya Bangdya, Meeth Bhakar, and Dhakti Jau.
