Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers issued an apology on Friday for spreading misinformation regarding Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s rumored second child, which allegedly led to Kohli’s absence from the first two Tests against England.
Addressing his previous statement about Kohli, AB De Villiers, known for his close friendship with the former Indian captain, expressed a change in stance. He emphasized the priority of family and acknowledged his error in sharing false information. De Villiers stated, “Absolutely, family comes first. It’s a priority, as I mentioned on my YouTube show. I made a terrible mistake by sharing false information, which was not true at all. No one knows what’s happening.”
He continued, “All I can do is wish him well. I think everyone who follows Virat and appreciates his cricket should wish him well, regardless of the reason for his break. I really hope he comes back stronger, healthier, and refreshed.”
Initially, De Villiers had indicated that Kohli was expecting his second child, leading to criticism from Indian cricket fans for allegedly prioritizing family over the England series.
