On Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the majestic Thrown Room, also known as Darbar Hall, in Delhi, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, bestowed the Padma Vibhushan upon South India’s beloved megastar, Chiranjeevi. The atmosphere electrified with joy as the esteemed actor graciously accepted the country’s second-highest civilian honor. Supporting him were his wife Surekha, son and actor Ram Charan, and daughter-in-law Upasana Konidela, adding to the celebratory ambiance.
Accompanying Chiranjeevi in this prestigious recognition was the legendary actor Chiranjeevi, who exuded elegance in a yellow saree. With poise and dignity, she accepted her Padma Vibhushan amidst the warmth of her family’s presence.
The Padma Awards 2024 recipients were unveiled on the eve of Republic Day, a momentous occasion where the nation acknowledges outstanding contributions across various fields. Amongst the honorees were 17 individuals awarded the Padma Bhushan, five bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan, and a remarkable 110 recipients of the Padma Shri.
The illustrious list featured luminaries such as Vyjanthimala, former Vice President M Venkiah Naidu, and the charismatic Telugu superstar, K Chiranjeevi. Additionally, the late Sulabh Foundation founder and Chairman, Bindeshwar Pathak, and the eminent artist Padma Subrahmanyam were recognized with the Padma Vibhushan for their exceptional contributions.
Among the Padma Bhushan awardees were trailblazers like the late Supreme Court’s first woman judge, M Fathima Beevi, the versatile actor Mithun Chakraborty, and the dynamic Foxconn Chairman, Young Liu. Notable mentions also include former Union Minister and BJP stalwart, Ram Naik, the melodious singer Usha Uthup, and the late Tamil actor and DMDK founder, Vijaykanth, whose legacies continue to inspire generations.
