The constant pressure to live a particular way in order to avoid criticism and judgement comes along with stardom. Raveena Tandon, an actress, hasn’t run away from her past, though. In fact, she hasn’t even tried to hide from her children her previous connection with star Akshay Kumar. Raveena recently discussed being honest with her family in an interview.
The actress and B-town actor Akshay Kumar were engaged. However, they eventually broke up. After that, Raveena and film distributor Anil Thadani had two children together. The “Laadla” actress claimed in an interview that she hasn’t concealed anything about her past from her girls and that her life is an open book for her children.
Raveena Tandon said, “My life’s an open book for them. If not today, tomorrow they will read about it somewhere and they might read something worse because you know how the ’90s press was. It was yellow journalism at its peak. They had no scruples, no morals, no integrity.”
The actress added that, unlike that time, today actors have the medium to put their case out, “Luckily you have social media where you can put out your case right in front of your fans, right there. Your statement matters. Today there are different mediums and platforms where you can get one-on-one with your fans or your friends, where you can put out what you have.”
She added that earlier, actors were at the mercy of editors. “Earlier, we were at the mercy of editors. Whose camp they were in or whom they were buttering up or which hero or heroine was buttering them up, they would only write about them, and their side of the story, without even waiting to find out what the truth was. How they wanted to bring someone down, they would do it.”
The actor from “Dulhe Raja” further stated that female editors who now claim to be liberated and part of high society once shamed others. “They body-shamed and called you names. They gave pet names to everyone, and the more scandalous the story, the worse they would write. I’ve been called so many things, such as ‘Amazonian,’ ‘thunder thighs,’ ‘Ms. Arrogant,’ and ‘Ms. High and Mighty,’ among many others,” she added.
Interestingly, Akshay and Raveena will be reuniting for the first time onscreen in their upcoming film Welcome To The Jungle. It also stars Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Lara Dutta, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Johny Lever, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, Rahul Dev and singers-brothers Daler Mehndi and Mika Singh.
