Veteran Bollywood actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha recently made headlines when he claimed that the iconic film Deewaar was originally written for him. In a candid interview, Sinha revealed that he regrets not doing the equally iconic film Sholay, citing “a clash of thoughts between some people” as the reason for not being cast in the film.
Deewaar, released in 1975, is considered one of the greatest films in Indian cinema history. It tells the story of two brothers, one a cop and the other a criminal, and their complex relationship. The film was a huge success and cemented the careers of its director, Yash Chopra, and its stars, Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor.
According to Sinha, he was originally offered the lead role in Deewaar, but he turned it down due to a misunderstanding with the film’s writer, Salim Khan. “Salim-Javed (the writing duo behind Deewaar) had written the film for me, but at that time, I had a misunderstanding with Salim Khan, so I didn’t do the film,” Sinha said in the interview.
Sinha also revealed that he was offered the role of Thakur, the iconic character played by Sanjeev Kumar, in Sholay, but he turned it down due to disagreements with the film’s director, Ramesh Sippy. “There was a clash of thoughts between some people, so I couldn’t do the film,” Sinha said.
Sinha’s revelation has sparked a debate among fans and critics, with some wondering how the films would have turned out if Sinha had been cast in them. However, it’s important to note that films are collaborative efforts, and it’s impossible to say how different they would have been if the cast had been changed.
Despite missing out on these iconic roles, Sinha has had a successful career in Bollywood, with memorable performances in films like Kalicharan, Naseeb, and Shaan. He has also had a successful political career, serving as a Member of Parliament and holding various ministerial positions.
Sinha’s story serves as a reminder that success in the entertainment industry often depends on a combination of talent, luck, and personal relationships.
