Actress Deepika Padukone frequently finds herself in the eye of a political maelstrom, but the celebrity claims she is largely unconcerned by it. The performer, whose most recent film appearance was in the hit Pathaan, spoke candidly about the issues that have dogged her over the years.
For her role as Queen Padmavati in the movie Padmavat, Deepika Padukone first faced political opposition. After a fringe group claimed it violated Rajput sentiment, the movie’s name was changed from Padmavati to Padmavat and other sequences were edited.
When she visited Jawaharlal Nehru University in January 2020, she participated in a student demonstration there against the revised Citizenship Act. This caused her to face criticism. The actor remained silent during the demonstration, yet her gesture garnered attention and trolling.
She encountered controversy earlier this year once more for the song “Besharam Rang” from the Shah Rukh Khan-starring movie Pathaan, in which she appeared in a segment wearing a saffron-coloured bikini. The saffron colour, which is sacred to the Hindu community, was allegedly disrespected by the song, according to BJP politicians and right-wing organizations.
Deepika, who is on the Time magazine cover, spoke candidly about her decision to keep busy with her profession rather than address these criticisms. After a protracted pause, Deepika said when questioned about the ongoing political reaction against her, “I don’t sure if I’m expected to feel something about it. However, the truth is that I have no reaction to it.
Meanwhile, Deepika is enjoying a successful career as a result of her role in the hit movie Pathaan. The action movie, in which she played a Pakistani agent, broke all box office records by bringing in much than Rs 542 cr in net receipts from all of India. In her upcoming films, Deepika will appear in Project K, a sci-fi actioner co-starring Prabhas, and Fighter, the follow-up to Pathaan from director Siddharth Anand, which also stars Hrithik Roshan. Both movies are slated for January release the following year.
