Shahid Kapoor, who went from being a backstage dancer to being a well-known celebrity in Hindi film, gave an opinion on the comparisons made to him frequently in the beginning of his career and Shah Rukh Khan. Shahid recently expressed his displeasure with such comparisons in an interview, explaining his position with the help of an analogy using the flavors of ice cream.
Shahid expressed the disappointment at being compared to SRK, saying, “It’s the worst thing that can happen. Why should you be the next anything? You are you and they are they. And that is the worst part of the job that you are doing, that you must be like somebody who is already successful. If you are like them, by virtue of that, you will be successful in the future. This is the dumbest logic that I have ever heard in my life.”
He continued to explain his viewpoint by saying, “It’s like somebody who makes ice creams. If they give somebody vanilla ice cream since they like vanilla, they only keep giving them vanilla ice cream. No. You have to be another flavour of ice cream. You have to make people like you, despite the fact that they like something else. And one day, you should be so good that people forget everything else and just want to consume only you. Why do you want somebody’s light? Every individual can be their own sun.” He also said that for the past few years, he has been trying his best to be himself.
Shahid added that even as young children, one feels the need to live up to the comparison. He added that rather of finding the unique and different aspects of oneself, one begins to shape and mold oneself based on that comparison afterwards. He continued by saying that it was a very unhealthy development. Shahid acknowledged that such comparisons continue to be made, which leads to young people modeling their behavior after the comparison.
The most recent Ali Abbas Zafar film in which Shahid Kapoor appeared was Bloody Daddy. Among his forthcoming projects is a romantic comedy with Kriti Sanon that is currently in the post-production phase.
