Shekhar Suman has ventured into the role of Zulfikar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest creation, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” where his son Adhyayan Suman also stars. Suman, a seasoned figure in the entertainment industry known for his multifaceted talents as a TV star, host, and singer, has graced both small and silver screens with his presence over the years.
While many fans rejoiced at his return, hailing it as a comeback, Shekhar Suman himself doesn’t quite see it that way. In an interview with The Indian Express, he shared his perspective, stating, “It is never a comeback.”
Elaborating on his viewpoint, Suman explained, “I am inherently a theatre actor. I wait for the right role to come my way. There might be gaps, but that’s because I seek roles that truly excite me. I’m not driven by the need to simply be visible across multiple platforms.”
Drawing parallels with legendary actors like Dilip Kumar and Aamir Khan, Suman emphasized the importance of quality over quantity. “I’ve taken inspiration from Dilip Kumar Sahab. He would often do one film every few years. Aamir Khan follows a similar pattern. They maintain a certain allure that keeps audiences eager for more. I believe avoiding mediocrity is crucial for an actor. Realizing you’ve made a mistake midway through a project is disheartening,” he shared.
Contrary to common belief, Suman also debunked the notion of Sanjay Leela Bhansali being a strict taskmaster. “I wouldn’t describe him as such. While he pursues perfection, he does so in a constructive manner. He’s meticulous, not oppressive,” remarked the “Tridev” actor.
“Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” an eight-part period drama, premiered on Netflix on May 1, 2024, garnering praise from both audiences and critics alike.
