Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel recently opened up about her experiences in the film industry, shedding light on the topic of nepotism and her own journey as an “outsider.” Ameesha, who made her debut alongside Hrithik Roshan in the blockbuster film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), reflected on her success and how it was received by her fellow actors, many of whom came from film backgrounds.
Speaking about her accomplishments, Ameesha proudly mentioned that she had managed to establish a successful career in Bollywood without the support of any influential connections. She pointed out that during her entry into the industry, most of her contemporaries were star kids or belonged to film families. She recalled names such as Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Tushar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Fardeen Khan, and Hrithik Roshan, who all had the advantage of a film lineage. In contrast, Ameesha considered herself an outsider, often viewed as a snob due to her educational background and upbringing in South Bombay.

Ameesha further explained that her success, both in India and across regional cinema in languages like Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, caused discomfort and jealousy among her contemporaries. She attributed this to their inability to handle her achievements, including the overnight stardom she gained alongside Hrithik Roshan and the subsequent success of films like Gadar and Badri.
According to Ameesha, instances occurred where jealousy resulted in snatching away roles from her, and she discovered herself mysteriously replaced on sets despite signing the films and blocking her dates for them.
Ameesha Patel actively promotes her upcoming film Gadar 2, which signifies her return to the big screen. Director Anil Sharma helms the movie, reuniting her with actor Sunny Deol, and schedules its release in theaters on August 11.
