Anupam Kher defends the kashmir files: Anupam Kher, a veteran actor in the Indian film industry, defended his film “The Kashmir Files” during a session at the 2023 Jagran Film Festival. The film, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, portrays the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandit community from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s. Despite being a commercial success with reported earnings of over Rs 200 crore, it faced criticism from some who labeled it as a “propaganda” film.
In response to the criticism, Kher referred to the movie as an “internal truth” and stated that he believes in speaking the truth without any fear. He emphasized that there is no end to truth and no room for interpretation when it comes to facts.
Kher also expressed his belief that filmmakers should not focus on pleasing the entire world but should first be true to themselves. He advised against seeking popularity and instead urged artists to create content they believe in and are proud of, rather than attempting to cater to popular demands.
As for his career, Kher stated that he does not like being labeled as a “veteran” or a “legend” and said he is not competing with his contemporaries but with younger actors like Tiger Shroff and Varun Dhawan. He expressed his intention to continue working for another 30-40 years, rejecting any notion of retirement at this stage of his career.
The Jagran Film Festival opened with the movie “Footprints on Water,” featuring Adil Hussain in the lead role, directed by Nathalia Syam.
