Renowned music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan has passed away on Tuesday, January 9, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. The 55-year-old virtuoso had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. Despite efforts to save him, an official from the hospital confirmed his demise around 3:45 PM.

West Bengal Chief Minister expressed her condolences, describing the loss as significant for the entire nation and the music community. She expressed disbelief over Khan’s passing and announced that he would be accorded a gun salute and state honors before his last rites on Wednesday. The Chief Minister added that Khan’s body would be kept at a mortuary for admirers to pay their respects, and later, it would be taken to Rabindra Sadan.
Singer Harshdeep Kaur also paid tribute to the late maestro on her social media, expressing deep sadness over the news. She highlighted Ustad Rashid Khan’s immense contribution to the world of music, emphasizing that his excellence and resonant voice would forever echo in the hearts of his admirers.
