The recent release of “OMG 2,” starring Akshay Kumar, had a relatively lackluster opening at the box office last week. However, the film’s fortunes took a turn for the better due to strong word-of-mouth, resulting in a significant increase in collections. Despite approaching the ₹100 crore mark in earnings, some reports labeled the film as a flop, citing its alleged production budget of ₹150 crore. Contrary to these claims, Ajit Andhare, the COO of Viacom 18 Studios, the film’s distributors, has refuted the notion. He clarified that Akshay Kumar did not charge any fee for his role in the movie.
Addressing the budget speculations, Ajit Andhare emphasized, “The reported budget figures for OMG 2 are wildly exaggerated. In fact, Akshay generously opted not to receive any payment. He stood alongside us not only in terms of the creative vision but also shared the financial risks associated with such a bold and daring project.”
Andhare continued, “Our collaboration with Akshay goes way back, from projects like OMG, Special 26, to Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. We have consistently chosen scripts that defy convention yet carry significant meaning, a shared commitment.” He further stressed that Akshay Kumar’s involvement was instrumental in taking on the ambitious endeavor of OMG 2, underscoring the star’s deep creative and financial investment. Citing an inside source, the article mentioned that the film’s actual budget is around ₹50 crore, which is considerably smaller than rumored.
In “OMG 2,” Akshay Kumar portrays the role of a Shivgan, a messenger of Lord Shiva. Directed by Amit Rai, the film also features Pankaj Tripathi as a devoted follower of Lord Shiva who embarks on a legal battle for his son while championing sex education. Yami Gautam plays the opposing lawyer in the courtroom drama. The movie released on August 11, coinciding with the release of Sunny Deol’s successful film “Gadar 2.” As of now, “OMG 2” has managed to amass ₹84.72 crore in its first week.
Amit Rai, the director of the film, is known for his previous work, including the 2010 film “Road To Sangam,” which featured notable actors like Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, and Pawan Malhotra in significant roles.
