Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, popularly known as Tabu, is a highly acclaimed Bollywood actress with a unique journey in the film industry. In an exclusive interview with http://Mid-day.com , she shared insights into her background and her path to becoming one of the industry’s finest actors.
While Tabu’s entry into Bollywood may seem unconventional, it is deeply connected to her family and hidden ties in the industry. Goldie Anand, a well-known Indian filmmaker, played a pivotal role in her journey. Goldie, also known as Vijay, was her mother’s friend and had an illustrious career with films like “Guide” and “Teesri Manzil.” Sushma, Goldie Anand’s wife, helped connect Tabu to the industry. Tabu also revealed that Shabana Azmi, a prominent Bollywood actress, is her mother’s first cousin.
Despite these connections, Tabu doesn’t consider herself an insider in Bollywood. She emphasized that she never intended to join the movies and initially stumbled into the industry by accident or circumstance.
Tabu’s acting journey began as a child artist when she worked with the legendary Dev Anand in the film “Hum Naujawan” in 1985. Her sister played a crucial role in her initial screen test, and an interesting connection emerged – Shekhar Kapoor, who later recognized Tabu’s potential and pushed for her acting career, is Dev Anand’s nephew. Shekhar’s departure from the project after casting Tabu left her feeling perplexed and upset. However, her career eventually took off with the release of “Prem” and “Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja,” marking a significant launch in the world of Bollywood.
Tabu’s journey in the film industry is a testament to her talent and determination, showcasing that her Bollywood ties go beyond what meets the eye
