Educator and civil servant Vikas Divyakirti, known for his role in the acclaimed film “12th Fail,” recently shared his thoughts on the controversial film “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Divyakirti expressed strong disapproval, stating that the Ranbir Kapoor-Starrer should never have been produced. He labeled “Animal” as “fuhad and badtameez,” emphasizing that such films regress society’s progress. Divyakirti criticized a particular scene where the protagonist, played by Ranbir Kapoor, asks his love interest to lick his shoe as a test of her affection. He feared that such depictions could influence impressionable minds with feudalistic attitudes.
Vikas Divyakirti, renowned for founding an IAS coaching institute, played a pivotal role in “12th Fail,” where he portrayed himself and contributed as a writer. Despite the controversy surrounding “Animal” and its criticism from various quarters, including film critics and sections of the audience and media, the film achieved significant commercial success, grossing over Rs 900 crore worldwide.
Contrary to Divyakirti’s stance, actress Vidya Balan, during promotions for her film “Do Aur Do Pyaar,” commended the makers of “Animal” for their unwavering conviction. Balan praised the film’s unapologetic storytelling approach, highlighting the importance of confidence in delivering content effectively. She emphasized that while content is crucial, its presentation matters equally, citing “Animal” as a prime example of unapologetic storytelling.
