Rajkummar Rao embarked on his acting journey by taking on minor roles, steadily carving his path in the industry until he landed the lead in Hansal Mehta’s biographical drama, “Shahid,” a pivotal moment in his career. Released in 2012, the film not only garnered critical acclaim and box office success but also earned Rao the Best Actor Award at the 61st National Film Awards. Nearly a decade later, the theatrical version of “Shahid” has finally arrived on an OTT platform.
Directed by Hansal Mehta, “Shahid” portrays the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, with Rajkummar Rao portraying the titular role. Supporting actors include Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kay Kay Menon, Prabhleen Sandhu, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Prabal Panjabi. Mehta recently announced the film’s availability on Prime Video, albeit as a rental option. Expressing his surprise, Mehta took to social media, wondering why the film wasn’t available for streaming without an additional charge.
In another project, Rao is set to star in the biopic of visually impaired industrialist Srikanth Bolla, titled “Srikanth.” The trailer, released on April 10, received widespread acclaim for Rao’s performance. However, his wife, actress Patralekhaa, shared her concerns in an Instagram post, recalling instances where Rao endured physical strain and risked injury while preparing for the role. Despite her apprehensions, she commended Rao’s dedication and expressed pride in his commitment to his craft.
