Actresses Ratna Pathak Shah and Supriya Pathak, who are also sisters, have been cherished figures in the film and television industry. In a recent interview, the two siblings disclosed some anecdotes from their childhood, shedding light on Ratna’s playful bullying of Supriya. However, it is important to note that Ratna never resorted to physical violence, instead using emotional manipulation to make Supriya shed tears.
Ratna and Supriya are the daughters of the late legendary actor, Dina Pathak. While Ratna is married to actor Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya is married to actor Pankaj Kapur.
When asked about her role as the elder sister to Supriya in an interview with Twinkle Khanna for Tweak India, Ratna humorously replied, “Yes, of course! What else are big sisters meant to do? And what are younger sisters meant for? They are there to be bullied.”
Supriya confirmed that she used to be a very irritable child who would cry easily, even without resorting to artificial means like glycerine to induce tears on screen. Regarding Ratna’s bullying tactics, Supriya explained, “She never physically harmed me, but she would…” and Ratna interjected, saying, “I used emotional blackmail like any good girl would.”
Supriya went on to recall a specific incident when Ratna emotionally manipulated her. There was a window in their parents’ room with an air conditioner nearby. Ratna would dangle one leg outside the window, creating the illusion that she might jump off if Supriya didn’t comply with her demands. Supriya believed that Ratna would be safe due to the presence of an AC duct, but she was unaware of this fact at the time. Ratna mentioned that this was essentially acting, showcasing her knack for dramatics even as a child.
As for their recent projects, Ratna appeared in the web series “Happy Family: Conditions Apply” and made her debut in the Gujarati film industry with “Kutch Express.” Supriya was featured in the web series “Home Shanti” last year and will soon be seen portraying Kartik Aaryan’s mother in the upcoming film “Satyaprem Ki Katha,” set to be released on June 29th.
