Kajol, renowned Bollywood actress, has unveiled the trailer for her debut web series, “The Trial – Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha,” which promises an enthralling and tumultuous journey filled with love, betrayal, and much more. The series will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar and marks Kajol’s foray into the world of OTT platforms. The two-minute trailer provides viewers with a captivating glimpse into Kajol’s character, Noyonika Sengupta, in this courtroom drama.
“The Trial” revolves around Noyonika, a housewife who is compelled to resume her career as a lawyer after her husband, played by Jisshu Sengupta, an additional judge, is arrested for accepting sexual favors as bribes to manipulate verdicts. The trailer begins with an enraged Noyonika slapping her husband for betraying her, only to transform into the devoted wife as he is taken away in a police van following the scandal becoming public. Standing amidst the media frenzy outside her house, Noyonika solemnly declares in Hindi, “A mistake repeated more than once is not a mistake; it is a choice.”
Subsequently, Noyonika embarks on a path she had long forsaken—returning to the courtroom. Along the way, she faces judgment from her fellow lawyers and the public as she seeks justice for herself and her family.

In an interview with Variety, Kajol expressed her excitement about the series, stating, “The complexities of a character define them for me, and Noyonika’s layered persona instantly resonated with me when I first encountered this role. I felt a personal connection with Noyonika and it reaffirmed my decision to choose ‘The Trial – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka’ on Disney+ Hotstar as my first step into long-format storytelling. Suparn Varma has crafted a world where vulnerable characters collide with the harsh realities of life. Audiences will empathize with and relate to Noyonika as she makes difficult choices, just as I did.”
Earlier this week, Kajol surprised her fans by announcing a social media hiatus and deleting all her previous posts on Instagram. However, it was later revealed that this was a promotional strategy for her upcoming web series, which happens to be an adaptation of the popular American courtroom drama, “The Good Wife.” In her Instagram caption, Kajol playfully wrote, “Facing one of the toughest trials of my life.”
Shortly after, Kajol clarified that she was referring to her new web series, “The Trial – Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha.” She shared her first look from the show on both Instagram and Twitter, exclaiming, “The tougher the trial, the harder you come back! Catch the trailer for my courtroom drama Hotstar Specials ‘The Trial – Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha’ on June 12. Coming soon, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.”
Directed by Suparn Verma, “The Trial” is an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed American series, “The Good Wife,” which starred Julianna Margulies in the lead role. The original show aired from 2009 to 2016, spanning seven seasons.
