Ayushmann Khurrana recently spoke about his upcoming film, Dream Girl 2, and how it serves as an organic sequel to his 2019 hit comedy-drama. The actor, known for taking on challenging roles, expressed his excitement about addressing toxic masculinity in the film and pushing the boundaries of societal norms.
At the trailer launch of Dream Girl 2, Khurrana was asked about Karan Johar’s film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which challenges gender stereotypes by featuring two male characters performing Kathak on the iconic song “Dola Re Dola” from Devdas. Khurrana praised such initiatives, saying that his own film takes it a step further in addressing toxic masculinity.

In Dream Girl 2, Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of a cross-dresser, a character that he believes is in the tradition of actors like Kamal Haasan, Govinda, and Kishore Kumar, who have portrayed women in their movies. He feels privileged to be part of this lineage and emphasized that the film delivers its message in a light-hearted and humorous way.
Describing Dream Girl 2 as a “true” sequel to the original, Khurrana expressed confidence that audiences who enjoyed the first film would eagerly anticipate this follow-up. The movie also features Ananya Panday, who was thrilled to work with Khurrana and learn from him during the shoot.
Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, who also helmed the first part, Dream Girl 2 is a comedy that took time to be made, partially due to the pandemic. Khurrana called it his “most massy” film, highlighting its appeal to both smaller towns and big cities, unlike his usual subject-based movies meant for multiplex audiences.
The star-studded cast of Dream Girl 2 includes Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vijay Raaz, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, Seema Pahwa, Manjot Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, the film is all set to hit theaters on August 25.
With Dream Girl 2, Ayushmann Khurrana continues his mission to challenge stereotypes and promote important social messages through the medium of cinema, promising a delightful and meaningful cinematic experience for audiences.
