Shah Rukh Khan‘s film Jawan has reached a significant milestone by becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year and one of Bollywood’s all-time successes, with a global box office collection of Rs 1143.59 crore, marking a remarkable achievement in its cinematic journey.
Jawan, directed by Atlee, has achieved a historic feat at the worldwide box office, emerging as the biggest Hindi grosser of the year and one of the most successful films in Bollywood’s history. The film has now garnered a massive sum of Rs 1143.59 crore at the global box office, solidifying its position as a major blockbuster.
At the domestic box office, Jawan earned Rs 640.42 crore, with Rs 580.09 crore coming from the Hindi language version and Rs 60.33 crore from other languages. Additionally, the film grossed Rs 757.62 crore in India and Rs 385.97 crore in the overseas market, resulting in a total collection of Rs 1143.59 crore.
Jawan continues to be extensively screened nationwide, with over 500 showings in major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Despite its sustained popularity, the occupancy rates have dwindled to below 10% in Mumbai and Delhi, while two southern metropolitan areas maintain approximately 50% occupancy.
The journey of Jawan at the box office has been nothing short of exceptional. Starring Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone, the film hit theaters on September 7, just a month after Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2.” Both films achieved remarkable milestones in terms of box office collections, but Jawan set records with the highest-ever opening for a Hindi film, amassing an impressive Rs 75 crore on its first day across all languages. In 2023, it stands as the year’s highest-earning film and the most successful Bollywood film ever in India.
On the global stage, Jawan ranks as the second-biggest Bollywood movie and the fifth-largest Indian film of all time, trailing behind “KGF: Chapter 2,” “RRR,” “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” and “Dangal.” The gap between Jawan and “KGF 2” currently stands at approximately Rs 73 crore.
Jawan”marks SRK’s second major release of the year, following the highly successful “Pathaan” in January, which grossed over Rs 1055 crore worldwide. He is now gearing up for his third major release, Rajkumar Hirani’s “Dunki,” premiering on December 22, where it will compete with Prashanth Neel’s “Salaar,” starring Prabhas.
