In his first interview since embracing fatherhood last year, actor Karan Singh Grover opens up about his deep bond with his daughter, Devi, and how she has become his top priority.
Karan Singh Grover and Bipasha Basu, both actors, welcomed their daughter, Devi Basu Singh Grover, into the world in November last year. Ever since they have been fully dedicated to caring for their seven-month-old baby. On Father’s Day, Karan reflects on the first time he held his daughter, describing the overwhelming emotions he experienced. Despite expecting to cry tears of joy, he found himself feeling a profound transformation within himself when he held Devi. He recalls speaking to Bipasha’s womb every day during her pregnancy, addressing their unborn child as “Hi chota babu, Papa is here.” When Karan finally held Devi for the first time and she opened her eyes, he repeated those words. He also proudly shares that he was the one to have his first skin-to-skin contact with Devi.
Although Karan considers himself a hands-on dad, he admits that he is not on the same level as his wife Bipasha when it comes to childcare. He humorously acknowledges that mothers have an innate ability to be more hands-on due to their seemingly unlimited capacity. Nevertheless, Karan strives to do everything within his capabilities to be the best father he can be, constantly learning about Devi’s needs, likes, and dislikes.
For celebrity parents, finding a balance between work and caring for their children can be challenging. Karan acknowledges that time management is an issue for celebrities, but he views it differently. Being a dad requires a significant amount of his time, and he genuinely enjoys it. He doesn’t mind slowing down his work to be present for all of Devi’s firsts, such as her first crawl, her first wink, or her first splash in the bath. Karan feels fortunate to be part of a profession that allows him the flexibility to work at his own pace, alternating between work and spending time with his daughter and wife. He expresses gratitude for this luxury, recognizing that not everyone has the same flexibility.
Karan also shares some striking similarities with his daughter. Devi has inherited his chin and smiles just like him. Furthermore, they both sleep in the same position, which Bipasha humorously refers to as the “fallen man position.”
When it comes to their favorite pastime, Karan reveals that they have a special playlist called “Devi’s bath playlist,” which they play before her bath time. They also have designated music time during the day when he sings to her. Devi particularly enjoys old songs from The Jungle Book, including “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wan’na Be like You.” Karan even dances for her while Bipasha moisturizes Devi after her bath.
Becoming a father has profoundly changed Karan. He believed he knew everything about love, but having a baby girl revealed an entirely new dimension of love to him. Additionally, becoming a father has made him acutely aware of his deepest fears, especially the fear of losing someone he loves. As soon as Devi came into their lives, Karan felt an overwhelming sense of purpose to protect his two girls, Bipasha and Devi.
Moreover, fatherhood has not only changed Karan as an actor but also as an artist. The intense emotions he experiences as a father find expression in his artwork as a painter. During Bipasha’s pregnancy, he created a series of paintings called the “Devi series,” which holds a special place in his heart.
Overall, Karan Singh Grover’s journey into fatherhood has brought immense joy and transformation to his life. He cherishes his bond with Devi and continues
