Actress Kangana Ranaut is set to make history as the first woman to ignite the effigy of Ravan during the Lav Kush Ramleela in Delhi on Dussehra. This annual event, held at the iconic Red Fort, has been a prominent cultural tradition for 50 years. Arjun Singh, the president of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee of Delhi, announced this groundbreaking decision.
Kangana Ranaut, taking to Instagram, shared a video discussing her participation in the event and also her upcoming film, Tejas. She captioned her post with, “In the 50 years of history of the event, held annually at the Red Fort, this will be the first time a woman will set the effigy of Ravana on fire. Jai Shri Ram.”

The Lav Kush Ramleela Committee made this significant move in recognition of the Women’s Reservation Bill, which had been passed by the Parliament in September. Arjun Singh stated that the event traditionally features a VIP guest, be it a film star or a politician. Previous attendees have included former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as actors like Ajay Devgn and John Abraham. Prabhas had the honor of setting the Ravan effigy ablaze last year. However, this year marks a historic moment as a woman will perform the Ravan Dahan for the first time in the event’s five-decade history.

Arjun Singh emphasized the importance of promoting women’s rights and gender equality. He believes that the Women’s Reservation Bill is a step toward the development of the country and society. He stated, “Now, a woman can also set fire to the effigy of Ravan; she can end evil too. Women should be given this right too. And that’s why we chose Kangana ji for the same.” The Women Reservation Bill aims to secure 33 percent representation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The event is scheduled to take place on October 24.
In the midst of this historic event, Kangana is also actively promoting her upcoming film, Tejas, set to be released on Friday. Tejas, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, features Kangana Ranaut in the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.
