A formal complaint has been registered at the Ghatkopar Police Station in Mumbai against Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and his family members, accusing them of hurting religious sentiments in a viral video depicting their Christmas celebration. Sanjay Tiwari filed the complaint through advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra from the Bombay High Court, urging the authorities to invoke sections 295A, 298, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as reported by ANI. Despite the complaint, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed as of now.
In the contentious video, Kapoor is seen pouring liquor over a cake and setting it on fire while uttering the phrase “Jai Mata Di,” a religious chant. Other family members joined in the chant, which, according to the complaint, is deemed offensive as Hinduism traditionally invokes the fire god before other deities. The deliberate use of intoxicants during the celebration of another religion’s festival, coupled with the religious chant, is alleged to have hurt the complainant’s religious sentiments.
Reportedly, the video was taken during the Kapoor family’s annual Christmas lunch in Mumbai. Notably, on the same day, Ranbir Kapoor and his wife Alia Bhatt shared the first public glimpse of their daughter, Raha Kapoor, posing together for the first time in front of the paparazzi.
Ranbir Kapoor’s recent film, ‘Animal,’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri, among others, has garnered considerable success, accumulating a domestic box office collection of Rs 540 crore. Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt was last seen in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaan’ alongside Ranveer Singh.
